Canon EOS 1300D Review: Easy to use, suitable for beginners

An affordable and functional price is a formula that Canon maintains to fight in the beginner class DSLR segment. Replacing the Canon EOS 1200D that appeared in 2014 ago, Canon now presents the Canon EOS 1300D with the addition of several new features. Canon EOS 1300D still retains the design of the Canon EOS 1200D. The body dimensions are not too large, the weight, when installed with the 18-55mm kit lens, is also still relatively light and ideal for traveling. Overall the body feels quite sturdy and comfortable when held in hand. At the back of the body can be found a 3-inch LCD screen. The display on the screen also looks quite sharp. This screen is better than the EOS 1200D because the resolution of the LCD screen of the EOS 1300D is indeed higher with the number of pixels reaching 920,000 points. This LCD screen is accompanied by an optical viewfinder that is quite helpful for shooting. Sliding slightly to the side of the screen, here can be found a number of navigation buttons. All buttons that it carries are large enough. The placement is also classified as good and easily accessible by finger. However, because all the buttons are designed almost flat with the body, the buttons become less comfortable when pressed. While at the top of the body can be found hot shoe flash and a dial to select the shooting mode.

Simple, easy to use the feature

As a beginner class DSLR camera, Canon does not complete it with abundant features. But, all the features that exist in Canon 1300D DSLRs are very sufficient to just learn to take pictures. The menu interface is also very easy to understand and use so it won't be confusing for beginners.

A new feature that can be found on the EOS 1300D is the presence of the White Priority feature that can be found in the White Balance settings. Although present to make it easier to produce photos with a more neutral color when shooting in yellow lighting, in practice this feature is quite rare for us to use. Because the automatic White Balance or AWB settings of the EOS 1300D are more than enough to be used in a variety of shooting conditions

Another new feature that we can find is the presence of Food mode. This mode is specifically designed for photos of food with tonal colors on images that look more mature.

In addition to these two features, the EOS 1300D can also be found in video mode with the ability to record videos in Full HD resolution. Connectivity is also quite complete with the presence of WiFi and NFC support to make it easier for users to move photos to a smartphone.

Satisfying photos

As a DSLR camera, the EOS 1300D relies on an APS-C CMOS sensor with 18-megapixel resolution with Canon DIGIC 4+ processor support.

When we tested it outdoors with a standard 18-55mm lens, we are quite satisfied with the results of the photo. Canon EOS 1300D is able to produce images that are sharp enough with very good color tonal. Its 9-point autofocus system also feels quite fast and adequate to support outdoor shooting activities.

Like DSLR cameras in general, the EOS 1300D also supports Live View mode for users who do not want to take pictures by peering at the viewfinder. In this Live View mode framing or setting the composition of shooting can be seen directly on the LCD screen. However, unfortunately, the performance of the EOS 1300D autofocus in Live View mode feels a bit slow. In low light conditions, the autofocus performance is also not as fast as insufficient lighting conditions. Even so, the noise control at high ISO for shooting in dim conditions is quite good

ISO settings up to ISO 3200 numbers, sharpness and photo details can still be maintained properly. While setting ISO 6400 noise starts to look annoying but it's still quite safe if it's just for small print or exhibited to social media.

Conclusion about Canon EOS 1300D

Although aiming for the beginner segment, the EOS 1300D is able to show off with a good quality picture. In addition, this camera is very easy to use and all the features it has are already capable enough to take pictures.

Canon EOS 1300D is the right choice to be the first DSLR camera for students or novice users who are just beginning to learn to jump into the world of photography. The price is relatively affordable. Special again the EOS 1300D is also supported by Canon's complete lens.
