How To Take Awesome Milky way with Canon 600D (Simple ways)

Welcome back to my site. the last article I wrote about how to make a time-lapse video with simple ways, had you try at home? maybe you had a try, hows your video? it's good ?. Today I will tell you tips and trick how to catch milky ways or take pictures of stars on the night.

A good Camera is essential when trying to capture the majesty of the milky way. you can capture the milky way with DSLRs but as long as your camera shoots in RAW and has manually shooting Mode, I think that's worth giving it a shot. A big factor when considering a camera to use will be its low light capabilities. for the milky way, you are going to want to get light into your camera as you can before the rotation of earth starts to blur your image. so you can use the camera has ISO between 1600 - 3200 up to its a wise choice. I will guide you how to shoot milky way with Canon 600D with 18 - 55 mm lens. its entry-level cameras but it can shoot milky ways. let's check it out :

What you will Need 

1. Cameras

I use cameras Canon 600D, but if you have the other camera and has the RAW function, 1600 - 3200 ISO, and Manual shooting Mode its can take a shot of the milky way. usually, I set my camera at the 30-sec shutter speed, 3200 ISO, and Diapgramh at f/3.5. but it isn't always perfect for setting your camera depends on the sky.

2. Tripod

You should have a tripod to steady a camera. the outdoor tripod if I suggest for you because it has ballast place to make steady your camera and your tripod exposure to wind.

3. Remote Shutter

Using a remoter shutter to control your camera's shutter is essential for shooting the milky way. when you shoot the milky way you will want to use "bulb" mode on your camera. it will give you to control how long you cameras shutter stay open. but if you didn't have remote shutter its not a big problem. because you can use 30-sec shutter speed its enough to catch milky way. 

4. Milky Way app

If you are a user smartphone you can find a milky way application for helping you to find the right direction of the milky way. because the milky way not visible if seeing with an eye. so you must use milky way application, an Android user you can download Stellarium, and for a used iPhone called sky view to help you plan a good shoot.

5. Good Weather / clear sky

A big problem, if you want to shoot milky way, is the weather. given how unpredictable it is. it's one of the things you can plan in advance. if things are looking good I then refer to an absolutely amazing website that provides an astronomer's weather forecast for the next 24 - 48 hour. it shows you the clouds cover, humidity, temperature and so on so you can be more confident that you will get a good result. the website is called Clear Dark Sky and it has thousands of the location of America. if you don't live in America you can consult your weather service.

Taking The Shoot

You're ready to start taking a picture. the fun begins, taking the milky ways is unlike anything else photographed. the joy I find in long exposure photography is it gives you time to think. most photos are 20 - 30 seconds long, so you have time to look a wonder. the human eye doesn't work this way. it's taking in light, storing some of it and forgetting the rest.

Shutter Speed

In that case, if you have a remote shutter you can use that. to shutter speed stays open up in 30 sec at least 40 sec. but if you didn't have remote shutter you can set the shutter speed at 30 sec or how long did you have on your camera. because increasingly long you stay open you will be bright but it takes to affect the milky ways will blur the rotation of earth started. so, I suggest setting your camera at 30 sec.

Diaphragm

For the Diaphragm set the camera on the big Diaphragm, I use f/3.5 but if you have more big you use it. the different of bigger or lower diaphragm is bright or darker on your result.

ISO

For shooting milky way set your cameras on 1600 until 3200 ISO find a good composition.
