Review Canon EOS RP More cheap than EOS R
When Canon released their first mirrorless full frame camera in September 2018, Canon confirmed that the new EOS R was the first. Now Canon has announced the EOS RP, the second Canon mirrorless full frame camera in the entry-level category and the price is more affordable.
For comparison, the Canon EOS R is priced at the US $ 2,300 for body only. Meanwhile, body only EOS RP is priced at the US $ 1,300.
If EOS R is intended for high-end photographers, this EOS RP is designed for photographers camera users with Canon APS-C sensors such as the Canon EOS M, to switch to the mirrorless full frame world. Then, what is the difference between EOS R and EOS RP?
Canon EOS R specifications
The Canon EOS RP carries a 26.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, the resolution drops slightly from the 30.3-megapixel one on EOS R. Supported by the same Digic 8 image processor, with successive speeds of 5 fps (EOS R 8 fps ), and ISO ranges from 100-40,000 (can be expanded to 50-102,400).
The autofocus system uses Dual Pixel AF technology. In total there are 4,779 focus points to choose from, which includes 88% of the vertical span and 100% of the horizontal span of the frame (EOS R has 5,655 focus points).
In terms of video recording, the EOS RP is capable of recording 4K 24 fps video at 120 Mbps bitrate, with 8-bit color depth for internal and external recording. For comparison, the EOS R can record 4K video at 30fps at 480 Mbps with up to 10-bit color depth for external recorders. One more, unlike EOS R, EOS RP does not offer Canon Log.
Like the Canon EOS R, the EOS RP uses a new RF mount and is compatible with many choices of Canon EF and EF-S lenses via adapters. But the EOS dimensions of the RP are more compact, namely 127x97x61 mm, while the EOS R is 136x98x84 mm.
Both designs look identical and the EOS RP also still adopts a fully articulated screen mechanism that can be pulled sideways and rotated to 180 degrees. The screen on the EOS RP measures 3 inches with a resolution of 1.04 million dots (EOS R 3.2 inches 2.1 million dots).
Above the screen, there is a 0.39-inch OLED paneled 2.36 million dots (EOS R 3.69 million dots) electronic viewfinder (EVF). In addition, you will not find a small OLED panel that displays a number of camera parameters on the top plate. Touchbar M-Fn's flagship bar EOS R is also absent from the EOS RP.
Like the EOS R, EOS RP has one UHS-II SD card slot and does not have in-body stabilization. So, it will depend on IS on the lens.
Canon EOS RP starts circulating in March at a price of US $ 1,300 for body only, the US $ 1,999 with an EF lens adapter and EF 24-105mm IS STM lens, or the US $ 2,400 with a 24-105mm RF lens F4 L IS USM.
