Ricoh GR III Officially Marketed in March for $ 899

After being announced at the Photokina 2018 event, Ricoh GR-III was finally officially launched. At the same time, we can finally find out more details, including the two shortcomings that are immediately visible without having to try first.

We start with the positive first. As stated in the announcement, GR-III packs the APS-C sensor with a resolution of 24 megapixels (up from 16 megapixels on GR-II). This sensor is quite sensitive to light, with a range of ISO 100 - 102400.

Unlike before, GR III now carries a hybrid autofocus system (contrast detect and phase detect), so it should be far more nimble in terms of locking focus on moving subjects. This is of course also supported by a redesigned 28 mm f / 2.8 lens, and which can now lock the focus from a distance as close as 6 cm.

But what is very interesting is how Ricoh managed to immerse the 3-axis internal image stabilization system on GR III. Also really new on the GR III is the 3-inch touch screen that inhabits the back, which certainly supports the tap-to-focus function.

As a product output in 2019, it is only natural that GR III packs a USB-C port, which can be used to recharge the battery. Too bad this battery is the first drawback; if the GR II battery can last up to 320 shots, GR III only has up to 200 shots.

On paper, the battery capacity carried by GR III is indeed bigger, but it is thought that the internal image stabilization system was the main reason why the battery was far from durable.

The second and third deficiencies will actually not affect all consumers, but still need to be highlighted: the absence of flash and the absence of video recording options in 4K resolution. Yes, it's already in 2019, but unfortunately, GR III consumers will still have to endure the 1080p 60 fps video.

The plan, Ricoh GR III will begin to be marketed widely in March. The price tag set is $ 899, and Ricoh also intends to sell a 0.75x wide-angle adapter separately for $ 249.
