Sony has just released the A7R III, two years after the A7R II. Just like its predecessor, the A7R III is a full-frame mirrorless sensor, with almost identical designs and dimensions. That is why the series of updates he brings are invisible in plain view.
Even though it is physically similar, the A7R III packs a number of design elements that are absent from its predecessor. Mainly is a small joystick on the rear panel to simplify setting focus and navigating menus, dual SD card slots, USB-C ports and micro USB, and batteries with a capacity of twice as large.
The OLED panel used in the electronic viewfinder has also been upgraded to a resolution of 3.69 million dots. The A7R III still packs a 3-inch touch screen, and this screen can now be used as a touchpad to set the focus point when the user is aiming using the viewfinder.
The A7R III features a 42.4-megapixel full-frame sensor and the same 5-axis image stabilization system as the previous generation so that the quality of the image it generates, in general, will be as good as it is. Nevertheless, Sony managed to boost its performance thanks to the new Bionz X processor that is firmer.
Continuous shooting can the A7R III run at 10 fps in maximum resolution and the autofocus position lights up, twice as fast as the A7R II. The AF system used still relies on 399 points, but Sony claims its performance in low-light conditions is more effective.
For video, 4K resolution remains a mainstay, but the A7R III is also equipped with the Hybrid Log Gamma feature, which is basically a RAW recording format, but automatically changes to HDR when watched on a compatible TV. For slow-mo video fans, 1080p recording options are available at 120 fps.
The best part, the Sony A7R III is priced at the same price as when the first A7R II was released, which was $ 3,200. The price is of course not including the lens.
